Jon and Steve's Voyage of Discovery
Well so far we have been to; Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pai, back to Chiang Mai, flown to Koh Samui and at the moment we are in Koh Phangan.......
We were supposed to have gone to a lovely little Island called Koh Tao, but we never made it. No one had told us that we were in the middle of a Typhoon and the sea was very, very, VERY rough. We were on the boat and were literally being thrown about. I panicked and let Jonathan know that we were NOT going any further on a boat and we were getting off at the next stop. Hence, we have spent much longer on Koh Pangnang than originally intended and think that I am ready to move on from here now. I think that we will re-name the girls, Clary-the-brave, Emma-the-brave and Sali-the-brave. They stayed on the boat for the entire journey and consequently have a horrendous but very funny story about THAT journey.
Thailand is a truly amazing place. I love it. We have met some lovely Thai people and learnt a lot about the culture and how different everything is for them. We are so lucky in the UK and we moan far too much about our lives! We want too much and aren't satisfied with what we have. I have already learnt some important life lessons, so look out for my dirty dreads when I get home.
Bangkok is something that I am so pleased to have experienced. Pai was great because we got to meet real Thai people and learn about life up North. Koh Samui was a very different experience, much more touristy than anywhere else we have been but a wonderful experience nonetheless. Koh Samui is also where my obsession with Kathoyes started(following the cabaret show and seeing Jonathan dresed in drag) and am now reading a book and wanting to learn everything about their fascinating way of life!
It's difficult to say which has been the best bit so far. Thailand is such a diverse country that it's difficult to compare two places within it. We had a great time on Koh Samui - so that is definately up there and again met some local people who gave us an insight into what life is like for a young Thai.
So next we are back on to Koh Samui for Christmas and then fly to Bangkok on boxing day. We have one night in BKK and are then off to Sydney for our Australia leg of the tour. I think Australia is going to be a very different experience to that that we have had so far, but I am looking forward to it.
I am going to be incredibly sad to leave my three girls. This has been a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend some time travelling with lifelong friends and it's a time that I will always treasure.
We won't promise to be in touch again before Christmas, but do have a really good time...........
Lots of love
