happy new year everyone!
its been our first festive season away from uk and although its very different over here weve had fun. christmas day its self isnt such a big deal in japan, all the shops are still open and people work a normal day so we had to work hard to make things as xmassy as possible. eveyone in the house chipped in and we bought a fake tree and decorated it with ramdom things. also, holly packed some mulled wine sachets in her suiitcase. we even managed to get bagels, smoked salmon and stollen cake for breakfast (cost alot though) and went to an irish pub for fish and chips for lunch. yummy. it was an idea to make a roast dinner but its very rare to have an oven in japan so couldnt quiet manage with a wok.
weve had alot of visitors this week and on sunday night my friend jun came up from kobe for the night. i was on the same course as him at leeds music college so it was really nice to see him after 5 years. we had such a fun night because another freind from leeds, tomo, had arranged for all the japanese students that studied in leeds to meet up so about 15 of us all went out for izakaiya (an all u can drink restaurant with food too). everyone got drunk and we stayed up till 5am talking and eating more food back at our house. the japanese were so generous too, and we only paid a tiny amount of what they did towards the night. thank you.
Also this week we have had our friend denise over from toyama, and two of her friends too. so at the moment im sharing a room with 4 girls. eek. Weve been to a really nice aquarium, and taken lots of purikura (see photos). On tuesday we went to ikebukuro and went to a cat museum which was wierd, and to a place called namja town where they have ice cream city, and arcades and food and rides and stuff. they had 1000 different flavours of ice cream including curry, snake, octopus and i even found guernsey ice cream.woooo. we couldnt quiet work namja town out as there were lots of different things going on and lots of noises and music and its was all very japanese. good fun though.
So who heard me on the radio then? for new years eve we had a bit of a party at our house an walked down to the main crossing for a big street party count down thing. as usual, the alcohol was flowing so when i got a call at 11.30pm from gueernsey radio and had to talk live on air in the middle of a party, it was a bit surreal. hope i didnt say anything too stupid?! after count down we got some food an then were going to walk to the shrine for sunrise. but by 4am after noodles we decided it was too cold so fell asleep. oops. never mind.
so i think this is our last blog from tokyo. were moving to toyama next week to stay with denise and check some country side out. then who knows where after that? hows exciting.
