Hello...... apologies for the much belated blog (oops).
So we finally made it to tropical Japan and along the way I've avoided being eaten by many animals. These evil deer in Nara park were no match for me as you can see i've got them well under control. After polishing of my deer biscuits they quickly spotted my ma and pa and their tasty cake goodies, oh dea! just watch the video............... (sorry mum its going on the blog its too funny!)
Then there was monkey mountain in Arashiyama, over 1000 monkeys walking around freely, and instructions 'do not look monkey in eye', i now know why, monkeys give very mean death stares!!! So that was in Kyoto, its a whole different ball park here in Okinawa, there's tropical creatures!!!! All the ghekko's on this island are plotting against me i swear, first we arrived here i found one in the bed eek (sorry dave and rose for nearly deafening you guys on the phone). Then on our camping trip, one decided he'd accompany my drink out of the vending machine onto my hand arghh, buy a drink get a free ghekko, no thank you!! dont even get me started on whats lurking in the sea ive been swimming in, jellyfish nets intact so we'll be fine, just got too keep a watch out for the deadly habu snake thats apparently lurking in the bushes. Not seen one yet so fingers crossed the only ones ill see are the snakes they dissolve in jars of sake, (a local delicacy mmmmmm dissolved snake.)
Anyway, so a quick update on the Kyoto adventure with our parents. A VERY action packed, suprisingly sunny, sushi on a train, s*** head for alzeimers club, temple hopping, zen garden viewing, hoping for cherry blossom, 2 weeks was had by all. All 'the best views in Kyoto' were seen, my personal favourite being the bamboo forest in Arashiyama which led us up to a beautiful zen garden made by a samaurai hollywood star, very pretty like a fairy grotto. We also saw a giant buddha in Nara, a japanese dragon dance, climbed up the Torri gates mountain, explored 'pontoco' and Gion at night and saw the bamboo illuminations, went to the Imperial palace, saw a very shiny Golden palace, a shinkansen ride, a very beauitiful old train ride through a river valley, and lots of souvenier shopping of course.
A very diverse couple of weeks for food too and everyone tried everything pretty much, even the octopus balls and sushi went down very well. (i think the chicken nuggets arriving on the sushi train was a popular dish? hehe). only strayed of the japanese afew times for fish and chips, maccy d's,italian, chinese, and peanut butter banna sandwhich a few times hehe.. The Izakaiya night (courtesy of jun thank u so much!) was a great taster of japanese food it just kept coming. we also had lots of seaood, tempura, tonkatsu, japanese omelette, japanese curry, all u can eat meat BBQ (again yay!!!!) ramen noodles, udon noodles, soba noodles, lots of noodles! good job we did all that walking eh??
Going to see the sumo wrestling tournament in Osaka was one of my favourite days, a really sureal experience an we may have got on the telly who knows?, followed by a trip to the crazy games arcade and trying to put balls into a giant noodle cup as fast as we could, now thats just werid. The best night out had to be the karaoke, which started with a few minor reservations follwed by a couple of all you can drink whiskies equals.... lots of rolling stones, led zepplin, and abba covers haha and one very funny rowdy parents on a bus trip home hehe.
So that was Kyoto, hope I didnt miss out anything :) xxxxxx
