Hey all
Unfortunately I have to make this update snappy as there is a que of people behind me in the computer room waiting for some internet time. There are 4 computers and around 200 staff members. And we all get time off at the same time bit silly!
My last few days have been a bit up and down. Its like an emotional and physical rollarcoaster, with very little time to escape the existance that is Camp Saginaw. Camp Saginaw is like its own little world. With its own Dictator, they tell you when to eat, sleep, drink, stand, sit, have breaks, what to wear when to wear it... It honestly hasn't even set in that Im in America yet, cus of this Camp Saginaw World. And plus there are so many aussies, pommys and kiwis here.
Sunday was the best day thus far, it was big brother little brother big sister little sister day. A bit of a mouthful to say. But basically the older kids babysat some younger kids. They also got some big blow up pool toys for me to play on. That made for a good relaxing day, a huge contrast to the monotomy of a regular day. The day did give me a chance to hang with some of my campers, but also gave me some time to just lie down and think. It was pretty difficult to not think about home and as soon as I looked at some photos a bit of homesickness sunk in. But I had to get on with the day so didnt dwell for long. 3 people went to hospital on Sunday. One Shari (my boss) had an allergic reaction to something and her face was the size of a balloon. Another girl got heat stroke (Sam) and fainted. Same joined us in the gym that morning, she obviously couldn't handle it. And another girl fell over or something I dont really know.
Sunday night one of my campers slept walked it was incredibly funny! Ben my co counsellor came back to the bunk to find Glen lieing the wrong way in his bed. Ben told him to turn around, as we was turning he got out of his regular bed and climbed up onto the top bunk of the bed next to him. I dont know how he didnt realise that he normall falls into bed, but this time had to climb a good metre to bed. He then Sat on the other boys face and was very confused when ben yelled at him telling him to get off. Ben eventually had to lift him off the bed and put him in his proper bed. It was hilarious and Ben gave everyone a very detailed re-enactment the following day! Glen copped it on the chin.
Monday was a good day. As Shari was still crook from her reaction it was left to us to look after the pool on our own. Naturally I took charge and made the place significantly better, if only for a day. Lessons were incredibly hectic. At one stage I was teaching 26 young kids backstroke... We got through it though. In the afternoon for the first time I got the counsellors to actually helped us watch the pool Which eased the stress/pressure for us! Monday night we had a staff basketball game against some Alumni's of the camp. Stoner and myself played and the staff team dominated all game to win by 19 points. It was good fun and lots of kids showed up to watch. I think if more were allowed to come then they would have.
Tuesday saw the first day of tryouts for the staff softball team. The intermediate staff and junior (AKA IJ) staff team up to compete agains the senior staff. The game isnt for a month but there is already hype about it. Both teams order jerseys for the game and it is apparently pretty intense. A lot of staff tried out... I now understand why we always smash the pommy's in the cricket... they were hopeless! It was good fun, Im trying out for 2nd base. You see a lot of action in that position and I think I have a good chacne of making it. I also had some spare time Tuesday arvo So I went up to the lake for some tubing behind the jetski! Its soooo much fun. Me and Superman got absolutely hammered! You just laugh the entire time. Definitely heading up there for some more torture in other free periods.
Today was Wateraerobics Wednesday! An innovative idea devised by myself in order to get out of teaching swimming! It was so much fun, have a look at the pictures. I was impressed at how innovative all the staff were. The kids got into it aswell! It broke up the week really well.
Friday night (Independance Day - When Will Smith saved the world from aliens) I get my first day off. Well it starts 6pm Friday night till 12 pm Sunday night. It is the worst time to give us days off though cus everywhere is so expensive! We're going to Atlantic City though, going to be awesome. There are around 20 of us going. We are putting 5 ppl in each hotel room with only 2 double beds... could be interesting! Lots of spoonage. Most of the crew will be under 21, so I think the general plan will be to stay in and get drunk. It will be quite weird seeing everyone drunk. The weekend cannot come faster though and it is all that is getting me through the week! It has been a long 2 and a half weeks, cant wait to let down my hair and free myself from the Socialist concentration camp that is Saginaw (Not sure my Jewish bosses will approve of that comparison but meh).
Sorry for making it so long! But I can't help but give lots of detail!
PEACE (all the kids here wear peace sign jewllery its weird)
