This is just a little something I started way back in April 2012 when myself and Paige first made the decision to travel!
I'm James, right now I'm 21 and just in my last few weeks of uni - cannot wait to finish!
I've been considering travelling for ages now but it wasn't until recently that my girlfriend - Paige decided it was something she would seriously like to do too so we said we would and So it begins...
Right now I'm sat in her university library whilst she panics and writes her dissertation, I'm meant to be doing the same but what better way to procrastinate than planning an epic journey around the world!?
Our plan is as follows...this time next year we shall be sat on a beach somewhere chilling and not have a thing to worry about...well sort of.
In fact our plan is to leave the UK around mid March time next year for roughly 4 months, the reason for March is mainly so Paige can enjoy most of her family's birthdays before she goes!
So we've discussed a route and we think we want to do this; First of all fly to Thailand or Singapore, then straight to Perth for 2 weeks, then fly across country up to Cairns where we will make our own way down the East Coast to Melbourne over the duration of about 3-4weeks. From Melbourne we're hoping to fly to Auckland where we will spend 2 weeks exploring NZ the head off to Fiji for about 10 days in the Yasawas. After Fiji we would like to hit Hawaii for a few days, LA for a few days then finally New York for a few days before finally heading back to the UK.
Of course our route isn't set in stone. Whilst I've been sat here thinking about my uni work I've also been looking at round the world flights. I've only really looked at STA travel and roundtheworldflights.co.uk and they both seem to have good but different options.
I think we're going to have to choose between a few days in Hawaii on the way back or doing 10 days or so in Thailand and making our own way overland to Singapore on the way there, I'll let you know our choice!
We havn't thought or planned everything through yet but I've definitely looked at a few things and discovered how much research it takes!
I've been tempted by virgin who offer sort of 'stop-over' 3 day packages for like £300 where you get to do bits and bobs if they're any good then these packages might be ideal for Singapore, LA and NYC...if not then we'll work our own way out not a problem!
We've thought a little about budget...we both wrote down how much we expected to need each (including flights etc.) on pieces of paper and showed eachother...we both wrote £5000. Obviously we don't know if this is right or wrong but I think we will be able to save that amount. Please let me know if this is a hideous estimate?! Also we're not planning on strictly 'backpacking' as such - (she's not into that) but we're not planning on like a 5* trip either...
Basically apart from being bored and stuck in a library on my easter holidays at 8pm, I started this blog to get help and advice from others about planning and stuff before we go, and to hopefully help and advise others in the future!
Cheers, I'll keep you posted
James and Paige
