Well after a lovely time in Thailand we headed back down to Malaysia for Kota Bharu. After being dropped at the Thai border ( to our suprise) we arrived late into Kota Bharu to the most awful hostel ever. Ended up sleeping there for a night then after figuring most of the hostels in Kota Bharu were well below par we booked ourselves into the lovely 5* Renaissance Hotel on the outskirts of town. Spent most of the day in the hotel having baths and HOT showers (a big luxury in asia) and lovely wine.
We were booked on the night train the next day so went into Kota Bharu town to have a look around. The town in itself was quite nice and showed a different side to Malaysia being almost 100% Muslim with very few Chinese. Although usually we may have felt a little strange it was actually the last day of Ramadan and Hari Raya the next day ( kinda like christmas to us). This meant there was an excited feel to the town. Everyone was so proud to tell us what was happening and everyone was out stocking up on food and presents after a month of fasting.
Missed out on the evenings celebration unfortunately but instead had a lovely 12 hour journey by train through the mountains to Singapore. Now this is some of the most beautiful rainforest in the world which we thought would be nice, forgetting we were on a night train and so missed most of it.
Ended up having one last night in Singapore though. Spent the day at the Zoo which to our suprise was actually very well done and provided a welcome distraction for the day until our flight back to Darwin that evening.
