Adventures of Gamblegirl
Date: 15 September 2003 Adventures of Gamblegirl - France Greetings all!! Would greet you in French but left the phrase book in my room and I fought for this computer and am not getting up to get it. I had originally typed this in Paris, but I've discovered that a French keyboard is not the same as say an English one and urgggh was just too hard, so am retyping this and have realised that I have lost the knack to type as I used to. s***!!! So am on my big trip with my travelling companion Lisa. The beginning of the trip marked a few new changes in this girl's life. First of all, my stay at Anson Road has come to an end. I am out of the shared house. Part of me is relived because I was soooooo over it. I wanted a place to my own that was a little smaller. The other part will miss the fun times, especially when residents of my house decide on a quiet Sat night that they might preform a strip show and while calling home to wish my lovely dad a Happy Fathers day, that they might have a chat with him. First of all Jonno, am very sorry that you had to have the conversation. Don't worry, we got Greg back by drawing all over him with a perm marker. See happy days!!! So I had to pack up all my worldly belongings. Thank bloody god that I haven't collected any more then what I came over with. Only a couple things more but not much (on a side note, have lasted 6 months over here - woo hoo!!!). So lugging my bag, I headed off to the hotel that we were leaving from to check in. Lugging being the key word here. Blooody hell, I didn't pack much but my bag felt heavy. I was walking like the hunchback of Notre Dame. I did make it and did manage to check in when - ta da!!! This Gumby forgot to bring her travel insurance with her. Yes that meant that I had to turn around and go all the way back to Willie G, dig around in my packed up bags and find the stupid thing. Then back to the hotel, this Gumby goes. Then it was a nice and early 6:00am (yes that's right AM!!!) start. See why now have checked myself into the hotel. Hopped on the bus and away this excited chick was. And first country off the mark was... FRANCE: You'll never believe this but the majority of our group is Aussie. Yeah funny that but we do have a couple of Canadians, Americans and from other places to balance it out. But on the tour we have a cult icon already. His name is Nick (or US as when I first asked him his name, he thought I'd asked where was he from). All the girls love him. A self confessed geek (on the intro's he stood up and said, "hi my name's Nick and I am not really all that interesting and am a bit of a geek") he is probably thinking what is going on here when every girl is calling his name. Óh and my bus driver - ................ All the girls are fighting for the front seat just so that they can see his reflection in the glass. Me personally I like to sit at the front because there is a better view - TRULY!!! So first destination is Paris via Dover. I've always been curious about Dover. I've read all info about how it was a look out for the Romans and the history of Dover and was keen to see it, especially the infamous white cliffs. All I can say is that, well I was more excited about catching the ferry then Dover. Sad to say, but was a massive dork who kept saying "Ã'm on a ferry!" in repeat mode. Oh so sophisticated I am not!!!! Then again have never claimed to be anything else!!! Oh and a big thanx to Pete at Olympus for the tip off about my new camera. I am sooo in lurve with my new digital camera (yes have up graded finally). Oh and I am such a Gumby, I believed someone when they said that they were painted white every 7 years. Duhh!!! Challenged and gulliable I am!! The French country side is so lovely. All farms and cute villages, I was charmed. And then into Paris we were, personally I was a bit blase about the whole thing. I mean I have been there before, it wasn't new and exciting, yeah well that changed. The first time I went to Paris, I liked it but wasnt in love with it. The second time (how many people get to say that in their life time?!) I feel in love with Paris. Maybe it was bcause of all the problems we had but this time I was shattered to leave. I think what I love about Paris is how historically and architectually old it is. While in Paris, I went and climbed the to the top of the Arc de Triomphe for some gorgeous views, went and saw the Musseum 'd Orsay which was great. I saw a Van Gogh and Matisse painting up close. It kinda freaked me out a bit because it's not something that I ever thought I'd do. Then it was on to the Conciegerie which was the old jail and where Marie-Antoinette was held captive until she was beheaded. Then went and did a cruise of the Seine River which was cool but with the sun I got a little sleepy and ended up having a bit of shut eye. Oh and brought slutty red lipstick in France - because as a girl goes. And Mazza had the bestest choc eclair that had choc custard and melted in your mouth. Went to a Cabert show as well. Yes dad, do understand why you really liked it. Bloody hell boobs galore. As a right of equality, Pupperty of the Penis, get up there and do your tricks. I'd rather see that then shadow puppets!!!! Then it was off to Lyon and the wine region which was stunning. Its so beautiful with all its vineyards and old buildings. I am bracing myself for s*** photos because there was no way that the view could ever be captured satifactorily. It was gorgeous. Watched the sunrise on it the other morning and couldn't take my eyes away. The thing was, that the day before (me feeling very ordinary after a big night out) I'd been on this big 2 hour hike up a mountain in which they called top of the world (felt like it too. Tip here folks, hung over, is not a good state to go hiking!! and Grima - how the hell do you find sleeping on the floor comfy????) But it was worth it. The view was breath taking. Had a little picnic and caught some sun, got caught off guard when realised that hey I am burnt, but not as bad as some other people on my trip. Hee hee. So that's it from me re France. Next place is Barcelona!! Cheers Gamblegirl PS. The pillows in this side of the world a s***e!!! PPS. Can someone pls tape the footy grand final? I can't miss it.
