Hi everyone
We have come to the end of our stay in Singapore and are currently waiting for our airport transfer. The last couple of days we have been very busy. Luckily the weather has stayed dry for us except for a couple of spots of rain.
On Tuesday we went over to Sentosa island for a few hours. The weather was very hot and sticky. We took a trip to the top of the Merlion (half lion, half mermaid) to see views of the island and Singapore. Inside the Merlion there was a show telling us how the merlion came about. We also got given gold coins to put into the lions mouth so we could win a free gift. Ours were hand held fans which were really useful but annoying to carry around as they didn't fold up. Then took a wander around the island trying to find somewhere to eat that we could afford.
Back in Singapore we had a look round the harbour front before heading back to the hostel to take a nap before our trip to the night safari. We got taken to the night safari by mini bus and went round with a couple of english girls from our hostel we had met on the minibus. There were trams to take us round the safari past many of the animals with a guide at the front telling us all about them. It was a good experience, with some of the animals not even in enclosures and can wander around the tram. Most of the animals were awake and moving around which was good to see although we couldnt take any pictures as we were not allowed to use flash. We then got off and went to see some of the animals the tram had not gone past including most of the wild cats. We also got to go into a fruit bat enclosure where the bats are inches away from you. Whenever one moved or flew infront of someones face, they usually ended up letting out a scream and terrifying the rest of us in there. The evening ended with dinner and watching a performance involving a lot of stunts with fire before heading back to the hostel for the night.
We had to check out at 11am today so got up a bit earlier so we could pack and made sure we filled ourselves up on breakfast so we could survive until lunchtime without needing to buy more food. The breakfast here is a little odd. Theres toast and cereal but also pizza (made on toast) and noodles or rice.
We stored our bags in the hostels storage and headed to get the MRT to Chinatown where we wandered round the markets, bought some souvenirs and went to visit Thian Hock Keng Temple. It started to rain and thunder so we headed back towards the MRT station.
For lunch we headed back towards our hotel and went to a food court. Both of us had chicken noodles, which came in a massive bowl. So much food, although the chicken was very questionable so we bypassed most of it and just ate the noodles and egg.
Our afternoon was taken up with a visit to Raffles where we went and sat in the bar and ordered a Singapore Sling. The most expensive cocktail we had every had, but it had to be done. By the time we came out it had started to rain again so we headed back to the hotel to get ready for our trip to the airport, which is when we found time to write this.
There seems to be a lot of building work going on in Singapore and everywhere you turn there are cranes and scaffolding which spoils the views. Apart from that we have enjoyed our stay here and look forward to arriving in Adelaide tomorrow.
