After a few very quiet days in Bali (sole purpose - just stop), started the Manado part of this trip. Bali to Manado can be covered flying via Ujung Pandang (Makassar)- With a few hrs transit.
Must say that leaving Bali via the domestic terminal is a far better experience than international - must be the lack of drunken louts that encourages comfortable seats, shops & coffee shops in the departure areas.
Of airports, UP is a huge surprise. Haven't been here before, noted flying in 1) obviously predominantly Islamic, which one kind of forgets after Bali, and 2) based on city architecture, possibly still quite wealthy? Impressions confirmed at the airport- no sighing aircon, vinyl seats and squat toilets- no, an international terminal, with Starbucks (is that really such a good thing?) shops selling Tissot watches and Calvin Klein ( not two for ten dollars, so they must be real) and free wifi. To save me being overwhelmed, can't seem to hook into the wifi.
Anyway, it's a few hrs stand- down in transit, so over a local coffee one spots on local TV
