Well here we are at the end of the first week already. Been a busy week, flew Perth/Jo'burg/Gabarone in one run & straight to the office. Picked up a cold along the way so popping pills..... Oh well.
Set up local sim on phone for email & internet, just as well as no mobile modem to be found, and no feasible connection at Ministry offices. Can hire connection at the hotel here, not next week ...... iphone won't tether with local carrier.....
Worthy of note are bananas@<$1 per kg, and a pair of G&Ts @ $1.50 ( for both). See prices on cover pic & divide by 7 for Au$. Sadly cold pills have stopped me capitalising on G&Ts!
Things here work very much on the old indonesian 'waktu karet' ( elastic time) but we have basically achieved the plan for week 1. Off to Kasane tomorrow to see the borders w Namibia, Zambia & Zimbabwe in action next week. I'm also promised elephants, zebras and many warthogs!
Photos in 1st album taken today at a game reserve close to Gabarone - taken by camera, loaded on computer & taken again by iphone, if the quality is iffy. We were very lucky to see a lot of animals - it rained this morning so maybe they came out a bit later? Did see a cheetah but couldnt get a shot that looked like anything but vegetation, and he? She? laid back down before I had a 2nd chance. Just as well its not how I make my living.
Typically I'm out of the 1st collection of books, local bookshop stocks a copious quantity of Wilbur Smith and not much else, so guess what I'm reading this week.
Time to pack & renew acquaintance with said Smith.
