wow what a week!! last week we traveled to Butare to visit the National University, we met with several women's studies groups and met several students on our own. We have gotten a clearer visual about this new generation of Rwandese. They're lovely people willing to help you in every which way, they are aware of their past and want to look foward towards a brighter and greater Rwanda. We are so humbled to be here and learn from them. Every day is a blessing and an opportunity to be a better person, it has truly touched me and I feel so blessed to talk to students just like me.
Last Sunday we were invited to watch the World Cup at Hotel Milles Collines, where many Rwandans survived the genocide in 1994, it's a beautiful hotel that has all the amenities of a western hotel but you can't help feel somber and refective once you walk inside. The World Cup celebration was a lot of fun!! We were hanging out with some Dutch folks and when Spain won....well, let's just say there were a lot of sad faces.
Butare is a college town where the pace is leisurly and pleasent. Met with a few heads of Faculty to set up appointments for our surveys and interviews. We were invited a few times to students and professors homes where we learned how people live outside of work and school.
Came back to Kigali on the craziest bus ride ever! Going 60 mph on a two lane through a village....yup there were a few close shaves there, but it was fun to say the least! Food here is divine! Beans, rice, casava and french fries...the food of champs!
At the moment we're in K.I.E. writing concept papers for different projects; a new Gender and Cultural Studies journal, a group for women in science, friends of K.I.E. for a new Master's Program, we're keeping busy and healthy and having lots of fun. Today campaigning starts for presedential elections, everywhere we see TORE KAGAME PAUL!!! the streets are going crazy, but everything is well organized and safe.
I feel really safe here, at night there are guards who patrol the streets and there's hardly traffic. I really feel that i could live here, comfort in a new and foreign place. Love Rwanda!

Milan I'm in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It's humid and I'm laying on my bed with my MacBook reading your facebook update about seeing gorillas and now I'm reading your blog. You are so amazing and I am so happy to know you are safe and having a great time. Love you friend and thank you for all the updates!
