wow! all i can say.
what an experience we're getting over here! we spent yesterday touring K.I.E. (Kigali institute of education), the best university in Rwanda, with the directer of gender, culture and development studies, her name is Shirley. We will be conducting different projects here within K.I.E. Very beautiful campus. Spent the day with her at her home and univeristy, gave us a quick tour of Embassy Row where all the embassies of the world are located, along wth ministry buildings.
after a couple of hours at K.I.E we walked about 5 minutes to the biggest outdoor market here in Kigali. Amazing place full of different kinds of fruits and veggies, the smells here are like nothing ever. sweet, sour, funky, nice, not-so-nice, mounds and mounds of beans fruits, vegetables, eggs of all sizes, and things i've never seen before! I bought 10 eggs, tomatos, bell peppers and other things for today's breakfast (my turn).
We bought beautiful hand woven things, beautiful beautiful!! We get language lessons everywhere we stop, today's lesson: Amakuru--how are you? mwaramutse--good morning, witwande---what's your name?, urabeho---bye, those are the words that come to mind right now. it's a funny thing, we try to speak in Kinyerwanda and most people are very much surprised and happy that we do, most just laugh, not making fun of us but laugh in a good way that doesn't make us feel retarded, can't wait to learn more!!
