Im at the airport again! Leaving Singapore for China now, so excited! The past few days have been nice - booked into a hotel for a change and been walking round the city taking in the sights...Its soo different to South Africa - for a start its incredibly humid and its rained (horrible drizzle rain) which isnt nice - but theres such a blend of cultures in such a small space which is cool, and the smells of incense and inviting food everywhere. In Little India I visited Sri Veeramakaliamma temple - a beautiful, ornate struture inside and out which was bustling with people meeting to pray silently, meet and talk or make offerings. In Chinatown I visited one of the oldest temples in Singapore - Thian Hock Keng which the first Chinese immigrants built. I also had to eat in a hawker centre - a place with side-street food stands which served such yummy, cheap food! Yesterday I went to the touristy island, Sentosa, which was kind of like Disneyland but without the kid stuff..so slightly surreal. I saw some pink dolphins in the lagoon though! And I went up Mount Faber in a cable car to get sights of the city. One of the best differences about Singapore compared to South Africa is how safe it is - I can actually walk about at night by myself, totally undisturbed without any worries! And its also very clean! Anyway, thats all for now...Ill write from China!
