I'm now in Singapore!! Its early in the morning and Im just waiting for my airport shuttle to the hotel. My last week in South Africa was amazing - so special. We took the kids to the aquarium in Cape Town on Wednesday as a treat. They got out of the minibus and just stood in silent awe from all the new sights and activity around them. It was brilliant to take them out...inside they just ran around with excitement and amazement at all the fishes and sharks! They got so hyper after the picnic and sweets we fed them though - quite a handful to look after them and we were exhausted by the end of the day!
The next day after work we went walking with baboons in the mountains...had to trek up to the top, but got really close to the group, who were making their way up to the sleeping area with their babies on their backs! Was pretty cool.
And Friday was my last day at work...I was crying before I even made it into the gate! Dyles had very sweetly organized the kids to put on a show for me and they sang all the songs we taught them and some of their own...'We know that one day we will meet again'. Awww. I was so upset and sad :( Such beautiful people. The project is going from strength to strength, however, - we attended a meeting on Tuesday to establish how to raise more awareness and fundraise so thats really promising. And I am definitly planning to come back in the near future!
I spent my last weekend with the girls in Cape Town together - had dinner at Mama Africa with an awesome live band, and danced the night away at the local Irish bar! On Saturday I went paragliding!!! Which was incredible...so blissful being up there with the sun in the sky and the beautiful views... Went for a quick swim after, dinner at the seafront, and then met up with my friend Owain from uni who was also in town! Fun. And Sunday finished off my visit with an African art and craft market in Greenmarket Square and a concert at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in the evening. Music, mountains, sunset, picnic, friends...an incredible end to my stay in South Africa. A place I will never forget and hope to return to soon.
