Well, here I am in my first destination. New York. I now officially have my first stamp in my passport, after waiting in line for over an hour at immigration in order to get it! The flight over was absolutely fine, delayed by about 20minutes, but all things considering that's not too bad! It managed to pass by in a blur of napping, watching films and eating, so it didn't feel nearly as long as I thought it would. However, the landing wasn't particularly smooth, and I think that mixed with nerves and tiredness made me feel a little on the nauseas side!
I then had my first (and probably last!) journey in a NYC Yellow Cab, although I must say it is an experience I don't want again! The taxi drivers (well, the one I had anyway) is worse than any in the UK, swerving in and out of lanes as he wishes, and not one indicator in sight! He also had a large fondness for the car horn, I couldn't tell you the amount of times I heard it! Also passed a billboard of an advert for rehab, and it was then that I really knew I was in the USA! Got to the hostel ok (after the taxi driver just dumped my bag at the side of the road!) and checked in no problems. Went up to the room to dump my stuff and hopefully sit down for 10minutes, but lucky me there was a couple in the room sharing a bed, so I just quickly changed a few things in my bags around and then left! Now here I am, in Burger King as I was hungry and it was the first place I saw with internet! Bought an hour as I wanted to catch up on things, and also wanted to kill time as I am trying to beat the jet lag by staying up, when in actual fact I am knackered and lost count of the amount of hours I've been up today (if you don't include the napping on the plane!).
So far, I must say, the welcome hasn't been particularly friendly, but I'm hoping things will look different in the light of day after some sleep. Typically, also, I'm on the top bunk in the dorm, and it's the one bunk bed that doesn't have a ladder on it, so god knows how I'm going to manage to clamber up there later on tonight!
I think that is about all there is to report really, as that is pretty much a summary of my day! I hope everyone else's has been less eventful! xxx
