It's Wednesday! We left the Star Motel, deciding to eat breakfast, as we had an all day event planned, with no lunch available. We stopped at a B&B called Chamberlains. The breakfast they offered this morning was apple pie filled pancakes, with ham & a slice of watermelon. It was really good, and only $12, we were shocked.
We drove on to Soo Junction, to board the Toonerville 24 in gauge train. It was a 45 minute ride through dense woods (Mom, you know how these train rides go….lol). There was supposed to be a great chance of seeing bear, no luck for us! At the end of the line, we boarded a large boat, to tour 21 miles down river to the Tahq Upper Falls. The boat ride was 2 hours. We then had to walk over ½ mile to see the top of the falls, that we saw yesterday! We had no phone service; I didn't know how 911 was going to get there! It was a hot, muggy walk. Then back to the boat for another 2 hours, plus the return train ride. The only wild life we saw were several pair of cranes, duck, & beaver dams! This was a bust. (And the kids on the boat were ticking me off! Where the hell where their parents!?!?)
We arrived in Sault Ste Marie, MI around 6:00, and checked in to the Lockview Motel. It is right across the park from the Soo Locks; however the park is full of trees! Got supper at the neighboring restaurant, had Walleye which was terrific. Walked out of the restaurant, and saw a freighter in the locks. Hurried to the observation deck (more steps to climb!) and got to see it pass through. Took a few pics, and headed out, as the park closes at 9:00.
Did a little souvenir shopping, and then back to the room. We have to be on the road by 6:00 in the morning, to allow time to get across the bridge in to Canada.
Night!
