Friday May 31 Rain & Clouds
Saugues - Les Faux 28km
6:50 woke up
it's pouring rain outside
seems no hope of stopping...
7:45 left gite and stopped at the market for fruits. there are so many tasty looking fruits & veges there in the rain:(
8:00 start walking in the pouring rain.
I don't know the temperature, but with windchill it's the coldest day ever. white breath with ice cold ears:(
I have to keep walking to make myself warm... the first cafe I found today was 14km, 3.5hours after I started. I needed a break in dry place! nice coffee with 2individual pilgrims who I have been seeing along the camino. The woman carry only small bag around her waist. she said her bag is transferred to the next destination. it maybe a nice idea to do so when it rains this much, but I feel a kind of guilty not carrying my belongings.
I asked for a toilet at the cafe but he said there is no toilet for the customers to use! they had a sign in French...:(
I did not make a reservation for tonight. I can walk to St-Alban-sur-Limagnole 32km if I don't find any place in between. that's what I thought. but after walking in wet and cold for 5 hours, I start to think that I do not want to walk anymore.
A lot of pilgrims are at the church of St-Roch. so I made a stop there, too.
The lady at the church asked me where I am sleeping tonight. I said I do not know yet. A few pilgrims came to us and start to help me finding a place for me. She called up a place at Les Faux, 4km away from the church. A few pilgrims there are also staying there.
so I walked a bit more in cold.
it was 1 km away from the GR65, but it's a nice cozy hotel restaurant with gite. 17 beds in one room at gite. there are only 2 persons staying at gite tonight. obviously those ones I met at the church are staying at the hotel side:)
wore rain poncho all day and no sun today..
there has been no cafe, restaurant, even stores along camino today. I asked for a gite with a dinner and breakfast.
it was a really nice warm dinner.
vegetable soup, pasta & beef in red wine, cheese & dessert.
I shared the table with Jean Pierre. He could speak Spanish so we talked in Spanish. it's a really shame that I don't speak French..
a group of kids with adults checked in after 10:00. got noisy for a while but soon they all went to bed,.
physical condition: shoulder pain (both)
extreme dry skin on mid finger on left hand
2.00 bananas & apple pie
1.00 coffee
28.00 gite (with dinner and breakfast)
