Wednesday June 5 Misty in the morning & strong sun~
Espalion to Golinhac 28km
6:30 woke up
7:00 grocery shopping and breakfast at the bakery
it seems French breakfast is breads, butter, jam, orange juice and coffee.
8:00 on the camino.
it says that it's less than 10km to Estaing but it took me almost 4 hours for me to get there. it was more than 12km!
Explore the town of Estaing and went to tourist information for a casual cafe for a drink and wifi. there are a few restaurants but they all look too fancy.
She said there is no casual cafe with wifi here. She let me use wifi at the tourist office. I also asked her to make a reservation for the day after. so it's all set for the day after. she is surprised when I told her I am Japanese. she said there were 3 individual Japanese pilgrims came yesterday and asked me why so many Japanese are walking this year. well, I have not met any of them, so I don't know..
I took a lunch with a banana and sweet bread by the river.
met a couple again but they said that they are staying here today. so I guess this maybe the last time to see them.
12:30 on the camino again. I drunk entire water I had with me. this is my first time walking camino without water, luckily, there was a place for drinkable water!
Caught up with 4 pax, we have been staying at the same gite for last 2 nights. Evette, Michel, Christine & Andre.
16:00 arrived at Golinhac. At the entrance of the village, there was a signboard. I found my name there. The gite here is very famous for having pool. my gite was at the annex, 700m away from the main gites. went there for payment and asked making a reservation for Saturday as it would be full in Figeac. the first one was full but succeeded on the second one. what a relief!
Golinhac is a very small village. just one small grocery shop and one restaurant. or maybe there is another one I don't know.
the dinner at the gite was full so I had quiche and panache for the light dinner at the pool side bar. there were people bathing earlier. I think it's a bit cold for outdoor pool now.
the gite at the main camping area is a real bungalow with a private terrace!
each bungalow has 1 double bed room and a 2 single beds room with a kitchen! As I am a single pilgrim, I may had to share with other person in a tiny 2-bed room. it can be very uncomfortable.
did some grocery shopping for night snacking and for breakfast. the good thing about the tiny local store is that I could buy a single yogurt! it always comes in a package of 2-4.
Rest a bit and light night snacking outside. it's a bit chilly but nice. there I met a woman from Ireland. She said she stayed at Saint-Come at Abbey. 96 beds but it was full. she got a bed after somebody's cancellation. sounds very special place to stay.
21:00 everybody went to bed.
I decided to stay awake for a while ...
physical condition:
no pain on knees without taping! a bit strange feeling on left ankle - almost gone
insect bites on forehead 5 of them - still there
my legs are very tired as half of the camino was paved road.
5.00 breakfast
14.50 gite
6.10 panache & quiche
8.30 (kiwi, pear, yogurt, goat cheese crisps, a packet of dried fruits, red wine)
