Well I seem to have got a part of the site working but so far no pics. I will keep trying!!
We had an interesting day if you can call it that at Auschwitz today. In some ways not as traumatic as we thought as you knew what to expect but still the sheer sizeof the place particularly Birkenau, which is nearby, the numbers involved and the brutality was horrendous. A very thought provoking few hours. It was something I wanted to do and see and am glad to have done so.
Tomorrow it is a bit lighter as we go down the salt mines whish are nearby where everything is carved out of salt.We should then have the afternoon to see a bit more of Cracow.
Cracow is a lovely place and much more touristy than either Warsaw or Gdansk (name dropping already! )The main square is massive with lots going on. Cracow is a place well worth a weekend break. The prices are generally very good. I had a breakfast this morning of a ham omelette, bread and jam, cheese, ham, tomatoes, cottage cheese,2 frankfurters with mustard, coffee, orange juice and then finally fresh fruit of orange and apple!(Poles don't eat lunch!). The cost for myself for all the above (plenty left ) was 16 Zloties which is about 3 pounds
Hope you all get this .Sorry there is no photos as you miss the sight of me in threequarter trousers. Not a pretty sight.
Off to Slovakia (Kosice-the second largest city after Bratislavia ) to attempt to grasp a new language and new currency!
