I have to say, I think so far our trip today to New Lanark has been my favorite. Mrs. Sutherland drove us to the historic mill village. We took a guided tour of a few the buildings and learned about the history. When we were hearing about how the mill workers lived, I started to feel terrible about anything I had ever complained about in my life. They had it so hard, but yet to them it was great. I almost had tears in my eyes when I found out that sometimes children as young as two years old had to work 6 days a week in the mill. It really didn't seem like much of a childhood. Robert Owns offered the children a chance to be educated, but only up to the age of 12. But, compared to the other conditions in different mills, this was a good thing. He provided heath care and roofs over their heads, something that we all take for granted.
When we returned to Stevenson College Mrs. Sutherland took us on a tour of the campus, before we headed back. We met Ms. Madden of Princes Street and had dinner at an Italian restaurant nearby. After dinner we made our way to Carlton Hill. The view was wonderful, you could see so far! It was starting to get dark, so we decided to come back up to the hill the next day before going out to dinner.
