Blog Day 121 Sun 4th September 2011
Swiss hotel evening!
Today were up late, all the walking we have done over the past couple of days has taken its toll on our feet and our eyelids. Once we are awake and sorted we head down to Bugis Street Market. Which is packed! After walking around for about 5 minutes it's as if we are transported straight back to Thailand! Needless to say we get the hell out of there pretty quickly!
It's already late in the day so we hang about in Starbucks for a while before heading to the Swiss hotel, another of Hayley's recommendations. And what a top tip it was! Our ears pop as we head up to the 70th floor, and once up there we are treated to the most amazing view over the whole city.
We do feel a little underdressed for such a venue though. Trish is in denim 3/4s & a strappy top, with Dan in a t-shirt & combat shorts, but no one has stopped us yet.
So we head to the bar & order a drink, it's not cheap but we are in time for happy hour & we haven't had a proper drink or night out in a while. Plus with every drink you buy they bring out a big bowl of chilli crisps which go down a treat as we are both starving! The atmosphere is great. However Trish can't help but panic a little when most of the people up here are in dresses and suits. Before long though a few other people start to trickle in wearing our sort of attire, which puts her at ease a little.
We mooch around the bar for a while, and then as the sun disappeares we move round to the other side for a fantastic view of the Marina Bay Sands and the Bay itself. Here we get to watch the laser show from a different perspective. After a few more drinks our cash soon whittles down to nothing and before long the credit card is out (don't worry mum we didn't go silly). The playing cards also come out and after a few card tricks the waiters are queuing up to take our food order. We have seen a few good looking pizzas flying out of the kitchen and decided that one of them will do us just fine. And we are not disappointed. We have had such a good night, just sitting chilling out over an ice cold beer & glass of wine it was a much needed release of pressure from always worrying about money & what to eat etc. For a couple of hours it's fun to watch how the other half live, all suited and booted pulling out their credit card at a moment's notice to impress the ladies on their arms, with ice buckets of champagne laden across the table.
As we are about to leave, Trish pops to the little girls room leaving Dan hanging around at the bar. When she returns Dan has the attention of both bar tenders and a few of the waiting staff, all focused on a pack of cards. As it turned out the barman asked to see a trick and with one trick leading to another we both find ourselves sat at the bar with a couple of free drinks. Trish's face was a picture when the barman set a Singapore Sling down in front of her.
What a perfect way to round off our time here!
