Blog Day 117 Wed 31st August 2011
So today we are getting ourselves out of here. We get up & pack what little we've actually unpacked and make the trek back to where the bus dropped us off. We aren't entirely sure if there will even be any buses running or any shops open today as it's the end of Hari Raya (fasting). It's clearly not that big of a deal here anyway because everything seems open. We ask a lady walking by if the buses are running just to be sure, she reacts like we've just jumped her, she quickly shakes her head & hurries away. So instead bothering anymore inocent people, we ask a security guard outside the shopping mall & he kindly walks us to where the bus should pick up. On the way 2 guys sitting on a bench follow Trish with their eyes from the moment they see her, as we are so fed up with this Trish can't help but say 'like what you see' & give a lil bum shake as we walk by, they soon turn away with a look of disapproval, that'll teach them. We stand waiting for the bus for a good half hour, just as we are about to jump in a cab the bus arrives. We sit down & a Hitler looking bus driver shouts '2 RINGET, 2 RINGET', why he shouts we don't know as we are the only 2 people on the bus and we are sitting right behind him! We get to the station safely & book onto the 1.30 bus to Singapore. We have about an hour to kill so it's a seat & bite to eat in Maccy D's!
There are only about 10 people on the whole bus & again compared to Vietnam & Thailand the buses are spacious & uber comfy. About 5 hours later we arrive in Singapore. We were going to get a cab to the hostel but somehow we end up walking & walking & walking when finally we come across the hostel thanks to Dan's great navigational skills. We're staying at the Inn Crowd which is practically in little India & its buzzing. The dorm rooms that were placed in were 2 roads away & when we arrive we find that there are 10 beds in the room not the 6 that we thought it would be. Anyway we dump our stuff & claim 2 beds, there are a group of English girls who we get chatting to, they are heading to Vietnam the next day, we try to be as positive as possible with the experiences that we endured, on the whole the vibe we give is to be aware of your belongings & get a good book, blanket, torch, air freshener & snacks for the bus journeys. It's hard however not too just give a low down on the bad experiences we had, we have to remember that the majority of our time in Vietnam was actually good! After they head out we both grab a shower and go in search of a curry house, no one else in the room seems to want to socialize which is really sad & boring. After another trek around Little India and the surrounding areas we end up in a tiny little Indian eatery, they curry was good however mildly overpriced. We head back to the main hostel to make use of the free Wi-Fi. Our dorm is located right next door to a club and it doesn't look like the place is going to be shutting down anytime soon. It's almost 2am before we both agree on a place to book online for tomorrow/today.
