mexico, Mexico
so..... finally getting round to update this thing, seriously dont know where the last week (or so) has gone... havent seemed to have any time!!
after a really long but ok flight i landed in mexico city at 9pm, got a taxi to mexico city hosel where id pre-booked my first couple of nights... got totally ripped off with the taxi and paid 285 pesos when it should have costed no more than 127 ha ha didnt really care tho as was so tired that i just wanted to collapse!
met a couple of cool chics, simona from switzerland, jane from oz and paola from cambodia
tues - i spent the day wondering around mexico city with simona and paola, met simonas mexican friend who took us for lunch and then we got the metro with her and went visiting the castille de chapultec, which used to be the presidents house (castle) and was then turned into a military training facility... was a pretty cool place. not gonna put pics on this thing.. they are on facebook if you wanna take a look..
wed - went on an organised tour with a couple of the girls from the hostel, shona (girl from dundee) and simona, this took us to the ruins in mexico city, church of guadaloupe (second biggest pilgramage site after the vatacan), to a tequilla factory and then to the mayan pyramids of teotihucan which were pretty amazing... managed to climb two outta three of them but whilst walking to the third it poured down... honestly i have never seen rain like this before in my life and we all got totally drenched.... then had to wait outside (where there was no shelter) for half an hour until lee our guide picked us up!!
thurs - went to visit the national museum of anthropology today with simona and shona, pretty amazing place but seriously massive... spent 11 - 4.30 there and only managed to see the ground floor which had all the historical stuff in it.. thought we´d splash out on dinner so me jane and shona went to this nice restaurant which had stunning handmade cakes for dessert... yummy (thats what drew us in in the first place...)
fri - my left contact lense decided that it didnt like my eye so have had to take then out, woke up early and went on the hunt for daily lenses, didnt have much luck... ended up in this little opticians where the guy gave me the creeks so just legged it and said id be back in an hour... didnt go back!
me and jane got the tube to the first class bus station and left mexico city to go to puebla today, a small town in the mountains which is famous for its food.. arived late afternoon, stayed at hostel san domingo which was seriously quiet...
sat - spent the day wondering around puebla (full of churches and sweet shops!!) its been 5 days and im already sick of wearing linen trouses so went shopping to find a pair of jeans... cant believe i didnt even bring one pair with me... found some for 150 pesos (bargin!!)
sun - as puebla such a tiny town and so dead we got the bus to Oaxaca today, hoping that the weather would brighten up and we´d get a more lively hostel... arrived and got a taxi to Hosel Pouchon which seemed lively... went to the zocolo for dinner with jane, matt, carl and Marin...
mon - went to the markets today with jane, they sell everything... from jumpers to fish... was very colourful and some weird smells going on!! walked past a resurant called chocolate... so went in there for lunch (nice big piece of choc cake) ended up spending the entire afternoon sitting in the returant overlooking the zocolo watching the world go by and chatting... was pretty cool and nice and relaxing!! found and awesome taco place which sells tacos for 7 pesos!! although i couldnt read the menu and ended up ordering two tacos with offel in them..... they were pretty gross so only ate the chicken one!!
tues - really sunny today!! went to waterfalls today with jane, hour on the bus and then an hour in a truck up the mountains to the falls (Hierve el agua)... they were amazing.... right at the top with pools you could swim in and then a sheer drop over the side, met some guys, peter from holland and andre from malta so just chilled up there for a couple of hours before heading back to oaxaca (in the back of a truck)... was slightly breezy!! went out for drinks with peter and andre in the zocola and ran into shona from mexico city - all ended up going for dinner and then getting icecream (butter and strawberry flavour - weird but really tasty)... ended up going to a bar where they sold litre pitches for 50 pesos!! bargin....
wed - chilled day today catching up on facebook and with emails, getting bus to san cristobel tonight which takes 14 hours.... gonna go first class tho as couldnt do that long on a rickerty 2nd class bus... at least i can sleep....
