First proper day on ‘Nusa Penida’ Island today. Nat hadn’t heard of the island before but Nats friend Gemma recommended the ‘Nusa Cliffs’ and with no upcoming plans and a little help from google, we decided to find out whether Nusa island really was like the Maldives of Bali as google had stated. After arriving late afternoon yesterday we weren’t particularly impressed. We spent last night in bed whatsapping some local tour companies to try and find out the price of a driver for the day as the west side of the island was supposed to be nice, and by midnight we managed to find someone for 600,000Rbp (around £33) (no idea what a normal quote is but this was cheaper than 850,000 from someone else).
Luckily he (Mr Wonk) turned out to be real and picked us up at 8.30am from our hotel the following morning. He had awesome music with a big speaker playing the whole way as we visited 4 different sites on the West part of the island. The roads are horrendous (very dusty, narrow and bumpy) with loads of people on scooters dangerously driving between cars. The sites we visited were stunning (see pics) - Kellaking cliff (could have climbed to the bottom but Chris’s fear of heights prevented this), Angel Bilabong (unfortunately high tide so not able to swim in it), Broken Beach (photos with the bridge) and ending with crystal bay. No photos from crystal bay but basically a beach with shiny sand. We spent half an hour in the sea here jumping waves but unfortunately it took us 10 minutes to get in as there were hundreds of sharp rocks under the water to climb on, resulting in lots of cuts on feet. Overall we had a lovely day, sun was shining as usual and topped it off with a delicious meal (see pics) at a lovely beach bar. Staying at a different homestay tonight, slightly cheaper than last night but unfortunately already had to kill 40 flies..( only small ones though)
Leaving early tomorrow to head back to Bali
