Day 2 in Ubud (Bali) - known for being hip and trendy (and also the ancient Hindu cultural centre of the island). Very busy with tourists but has a very cool vibe, lots of fun places to eat but still has the cheap ‘warungs’ down the side streets.
Our cheap hostel is alright for what we’ve payed, very central but down a side street so can’t here the noise, except for the morning birds coocooing. Also no 5am prayer for once woo! (Cold shower, leaking tap and no outside light though)
Spent yesterday exploring Ubud town, down the markets (Nat finally bought an ‘ok’ dress that fitted) and up to the monkey forest. We both got very scared as 3 monkeys came out scrawling and screeching at each other, and so were quick to run away from the entrance before they stole our stuff.
We came across a cafe with a lovely pool yesterday (see pics) that no one was using so had it all to ourself, so spent a few hours with a cocktail in the pool and reading our books and most probably will return as Nat is keen to start getting a tan!
Unfortunately Nat had the runs yesterday but has luckily has cleared up today.
Found a delicious place to eat last night, bit pricier than normal but the place itself was really cool, fish in the river inside (see pics). Also shared an amazing vegan brownie.
Met some other tourists this morning at breakfast at our hostel, a young couple from Slovenia, they invited us to share a driver with them tomorrow to take us round the waterfalls, temples and rice paddies which means half price for us which is good!
Spent this morning doing a 5km walk along the popular ridge. Saw lots of lovely sites and more cloudy/cooler today so Chris didn’t suffer too much.
Lovely cheap lunch and dinner at some more homely warungs - tried black rice pudding which was nice. Had another 30 min massage each and we wanted to watch one of the local dance shows tonight but unfortunately started raining so will save that for another day
