We woke with dread at the prospect of a journey with this particular bus company. Google is littered with poor reviews and news articles of tragic crashes... However, credit to them it was a very pleasant journey (for us) and was almost on schedule! Some of the poor locals had to make do on plastic stools in the aisle for several hours!
Battembang is quite a small and sleepy city. We had organised a walking tour with Saron who was a scholarship university student who worked at a hotel and as a tour guide on the side. We saw a few local attractions and had a interesting history/recent political lesson. Finally finishing our day off after a massage and a smoothie.
As we have 5 days here, we’ve split the activities that we plan to do as there isn’t that much to keep you occupied. Cafe hopping in the morning was followed by table tennis at a nearby hostel and finally the ‘circus’. A local school for the arts funds itself by hosting circus performances each night - a mixture of interpretative dance, comedy, theatre and circus acts they put on an entertaining show for a worthwhile cause!
