So, New York. Woop Woop
My new favourite city in the world ( it ties with Melbourne btw)
The next day we caught the bus to new York which was running two whole hours late and we were all very excited even though it was pouring with rain. Good day to leave Atlantic city anyway.
After a 5 hour trip - which should have only been two and a half, but due to traffic and weather conditions we were going at snails pace the whole way, we finally got to the big apple.
QUICK FACT - know why new York was called the big apple? To musicians in america an " apple" is another word for a "gig" and it was also known that if you were able to get an "apple" in new York city, you were a real talent! Thus the Big apple!
Anyway, we drove in at 730 pm on a rainy Sunday night so we didnt really get to see much of the city. But after lugging our backpacks around the port authority - which was very freaky, we got to the street.
Even in the rain it was beautiful. Huge lights, billboards and posters advertisings a variety of things. People of all walks of life trundling down the road on top of the subway vents. Hotdog vendors and I heart NY shops EVERYWHERE. Yes it was there for the tourists but boy was it great!
Our first challenge awaited, catching our first yellow taxi! It was harder than it sounds because as soon as they saw our bags they all drove off! After standing in the pouring rain for about 15 minutes one kind driver finally picked us up and away we went to the apartment we has hired for the next four days!
It was pointless to get a taxi because the apartment was a three minute walk, right in the heart of times square! Such a good find!!!
The apartment itself was amazing. Long hallways. Bedrooms with tvs, bathroom totally black and white tile, very art deco. It was a real NY apartment! We dumped out back and headed straight back out into the pouring rain to dinner at a famous American diner called TGI Fridays.
By the time we got there I was a drowned rat because as usual I was the only one who forgot a rain jacket. They still let me in though! Thank goodness! We ate, and it was delish, I had a yummy salad, we then had a look around times square, which is the most unbelievable place in the world. It just to hard explain, it defs a place you have to experience first hand. It felt like day time, people to entertain you all nightm- I could have sat there for for hours except it was raining so we headed back to the apartment and chilled until about 3 am!
YAY FOR NO SLEEP
Can't wait for tomorrow!
