We left Amboise around 2 PM crossing the Loire to the north and rode about 4 km through Villeray to Perreux. Here we turned west and rode about 16 km through vineyards and farm land, en route to Château Le Domaine des Bidaudieres where we had rooms for the night. This farm country has carrots, potatoes, sunflowers, corn, wheat, soy beans, and of course, grapes.
We arrived at the Le Domaine des Bidaudieres Château at about 7 PM. The kids fell in love with the place instantly. It was like a castle built into a hillside with extensive grounds, buildings, and of course, a large pond. Our French host, however, was having a bad day and blew a gasket. Apparently she was bringing up something to Eric and Amy's room. Their panniers were just inside the door and Eric was sending an email trying to solve a problem on his construction project. Unable to get his attention, she kicked both of the panniers into the room with her foot and then had some harsh words for him and the children. She realized her folly later and tried to make it up to him and Amy even making them eggs the next day for breakfast (les oeuffs were not part of le petite dejeuner menu).
Unfortunately, this château was nowhere near a restaurant. So about 8 PM we set of on foot for an italian restaurant in Vouvray, supposedly about 2 km away, but given that it took us over an hour to get there, it must have been more like 4. We arrived at ristorante la Scala at anout 9:15 pretty much ravenous. The dinner was surprisingly good
