Day One
Our first day in Washington. Mike had to take the rental car back and it took about four hours. Road works meant a diversion so he got lost....we worried a little but he finally turned up at lunch time.
We went to the Air and Space museum this afternoon. The older boys were very interested but George found it a little hard to concentrate. We walked down to the Capitol, got some photos then came back to the hotel. We only had to walk about 1 K in total but the heat made it extremely hard. We all arrived back with very red faces. After dinner we took the boys up to the pool. We lasted there until 9.00 and it was still warm enough to sit in togs watching the boys. Didn't want to get my hair wet :-)
Day Two
We tried to get an early start today. However, by the time we were all up and had eaten breakfast, it was just after 11.00 before we left. There had been a lightening storm but by the time we left, the ground had dried up and it was hot again. We walked up the Mall to the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial then went past the White House. It took about three hours to walk and by the time we got back we were all ready for a nap. Unfortunately the pool was closed this afternoon due to 'inclement' weather so we rested in our rooms instead. We leave tomorrow evening and I think we are all ready to leave America. We're tired and struggling with the heat plus we're all looking forward to spending time in London with family.
