After a grueling 8 hour flight to Singapore, a 5 hour stop over in Changi Airport and another 13 hour flight to London on top of that...I finally made it! Functioning on less than 3 hours sleep in over 24 hours, I was awake enough to befriend a young guy named Eddie sitting next to me, who was a little older than me and also traveling alone. He was a seasoned traveller and had bought a one way ticket to London in the hope of obtaining a working visa in Berlin and working in a pub there for a couple of months. He kindly guided me though customs and then through to baggage claim and then to the tube. Once on the tube my 3 hours of petty sleep took force and I was completely awake. I excitedly watched as we travelled through what seemed like country suburbia with beautiful, tiny houses with crawling vines all over them and chimneys galore! It was hard not to be inspired by the Beatrix Potter-esk scenes. To quote my favourite British movie Death at a Funeral, "everything's so f$@!ing green!!!" It was around 15 stops to Kings Cross station and as soon as I was there I said goodbye to Eddie and was finally completely alone. When I emerged onto the street after finding my way to ground level, two double decker red buses pulled up right in front of me. I was here, in London! It was a short 5 minute walk down the street to Kings Cross where I checked in. In the elevator I met two girls who happened to have also been on my earlier flight and staying in my room. We were all keen to eat and go to bed so we wandered up the street to a small pub and shared a home style 14inch pizza with ginger ale. Cost us just under 5 pound each. Then back to the hostel for showers which I still need to learn to navigate my way around, and bed. By this time it was 9:30pm and still as bright as day...but it didn't matter because the room was silent in under 5 minutes. And now I'm awake at 4:30am writing this blog in my bed, trying not to wake anyone and about to get ready for my tour departure. Bring on Paris!
