Yesterday we arrived in chilly Switzerland and settled into the beautiful little town of Lauterbrunnen. Lauterbrunnen is situated in a deep gully in the middle of the Swiss alps and is surrounded by towering cliffs and glacial waterfalls. The houses are adorned with colorful flower boxes and a quaint little chapel marks the town centre. Simply describing this town as picturesque doesn't do it enough justice. In the campgrounds we are staying in little cabins with 7 other Topdeck tour groups. To celebrate this, last night the local bar hosted a traffic light party for all topdeckers and to say it got rowdy is an understatement. I myself didn't drink too much but I enjoyed some local drinking games early in the night, which involved hammering a nail into a big wooden trunk - bit dangerous with my aim and even more so when alcohol is involved! Today I journeyed up to the highest point in Europe which is on top of a mountain called Jungfrau. It's about a 2 hour trip up to the mountain on a rickety train which is one of the longest operating trains in Europe. Once we were up the top we went straight to the observatory and out into the snow. At the summit it was about -0.6 degrees and yet some of the boys still insisted on getting naked. It was hilarious and extremely brave. I then explored the ice caves up there and even went tobogganing on the snow fields. For lunch it was sandwiches with swiss cheese and swiss toblerone chocolate. Last night we also were treated to traditional cheese fondue - delish! At the moment I am currently sitting in a cafe in the town, sipping coffee and writing postcards. I have to meet the group in about an hour for our group dinner in a local restaurant, where we will dine on Swiss Rosti which is a type of potato bake. So much cheese and carbs! Tomorrow we're off to the French Riviera and will be making a short stop on the way at a local perfumery which will be interesting. It's always go go go here ahh! Xx
