Well it's official, I'm in love with the city of love! Blanketed in dusk and lit by street lamps, we drove through the city of Paris tonight to check out the famous monuments. It's hard for me to truly describe the feeling you get when you're in Paris - but I think it's best described as potent patriotism and love for a country within which you may not belong. I felt connected to the monuments, the history and the culture in a way I did not expect and with only one day left to explore the city, I've already decided that I'll have to come back to give the city the time it deserves.
On the tour tonight we first drove past the Notre Dame which is the most beautiful building I have ever seen and then past the louvre which is bigger than I expected. Then we braved the craziest roundabout in the world to circle the Arc de Triumph which commemorates all of Napoleon's victories and finally to the Eiffel Tower which of course is amazing. However, it was the Academie de Militaire that I found to be most interesting, as you can still observe the bullet holes in the building from when the Nazi's invaded the city during World War II.
Before the tour we went to a small cafe on the side of the road for a drink, where I ordered a "Green Morning" which was about 3 parts gin and 1 part grapefruit and orange juice. Lets hope it doesn't live up to its name tomorrow... We then went out to dinner where a couple of us shared a 50euro bottle of champagne while dining on escargot, pumpkin soup and beef bourguignon - and yes...snails are surprisingly delicious!
Well it's midnight and I still need to prepare for my day tomorrow so for now adieu! Xx
