Today we explored more of Vienna. First we had a brief driving tour around the city which showed us a couple of the most famous sites. Included in these were the concert hall, St Stephens cathedral and the statue of Marie Therese. Marie Therese was the first roman empress and she's my new idol! We then were dropped off to explore for the rest of the day. For a bit of a change I spent the day with the boys where we visited the Natural History Museum. We walked around there for about an hour and a half and then walked to St Stephens basilica in the main city area. We then climbed over 440 steps to reach the top - I've climbed a lot of stairs in Europe but these were by far the most tiring. At the top we then caught our breath, took in the views and went back down. After this the boys were thirsty so we found a pub to have lunch in. They had schnitzels and beers and I ordered a chicken dish and a cider but was given a Schneider beer instead haha! It was good though! However with their thirst not quite satisfied, the boys and I then headed to an international food festival that was being held in the main square of Vienna. There was international music playing and food stalls from America, Italy, all over Asia, Germany and Australia! I bought waffles and the boys bought me a Radler beer. It was by far the best beer I have ever had...mostly because it didn't taste like beer at all. We then set off back to the bus where we were all taken to an old schnapps factory which was started and continues yo be owned by the Fisher family. Their particular factory is famous in Vienna because they were chosen as the official booze suppliers to the king. There we learned about all different types of spirits and then got to sample a shot of three of our favourites. Some that we got to try included one with gold leaf in it (that the king drank), a chilli flavored one, banana and chocolate, creme brûlée and of course butterscotch and apricot. Feeling tipsy, some of us then went on to travel to the local opera house where we watched a classical music concert completely with ballet dancers and opera singers. At intermission we also were treated to champagne - very fancy - but too much alcohol! The concert was great and we all raved about upon our return to the hostel. Then it was time for bed.
