Siem Reap 24th-27th April
The 13 Hour bus journey from Ho Chin Minh was definitely a drag but it was all made worth it when we arrived in Cambodia, what a place! The people are what make it, compared to the rest of SE Asia they are really friendly people.
After passsing through the rest of Cambodia it was stange to see Siam Reap which is a very Americanised town, it was like entering a different country. When we arrived, for the first time ever we had to shout for a transport to a hotel rather than being mauled by tens of different drivers all saying they can do best price. By chance we met a driver called Bee, he took us by surprise with his shy method of selling his services. We sort of had to persuade him to take our business! Because of this we decided to go with him as our driver for the two days we were in Siam Reap. (Most people get a driver to take them around the various temples in the local area).
That night we went to the temples so see the sunset, this was a bit unsuccesful as clouds blocked most of the sun and then it rained....hard!
The next day was much better, we got up really early, 4:30am! To see the sun rise over the main attraction; Angkor Wat, the clouds threatened our chance for a perfect picture again but luckily we found a gap in them. After this Bee took us too a few other temples including Ta Phrom which has half been overgrown with trees. This place was really cool, an amazing view of what nature can do to human buildings if you give it the time.
By the last temple, the 38 Deg temperatures were starting to get to us, we told Bee to head home asap so we could try to find a room with air con!
The temple experience was great and we came away from Siam Reap with a really good view of both Cambodia and the people in it. The question was would we feel the same after the countries capital: Phnom Penh.
