Hello family,
We had a great time with Alana & Aidin joining us at the campground of Cadzand. We will send you some more pictures as soon as I can.
Mum/maree
Just loving your photos and blogs, the architecture and history are fascinating. The days are going by quickly, and soon you will be in the Netherlands with the family!
Aidan
Uncle Colin: Glad that mum has been keeping you up to date. I didn't know the history of the siege of Lucknow but I have just read the poem - very interesting. The hotel where we stayed is only about 2km from the residence where the siege took place. So much history - my reading list is growing very quickly!
Dad: I know, our three weeks in Turkey is already starting to feel short! I have been approached for shoe shines about 50 times in the last 3 months and I finally gave in... the guy saved us from a climb in the wrong direction and showed us to a good spot on the Istanbul city wall. I'm sure that his friendly advice was a marketing ploy, but I was feeling charitable and (as a bonus) my shoes were actually pretty dirty :)
Dad (Roy)
Hi Aidan and Alana,
Turkey looks unbelievable with all the history, and the melting pot of cultures.
As for all the fantastic looking food, you will not be wanting to leave.
I like the shoe shine but don't know why Aidan would want those shoes to glow. How much??
Enjoy the rest of the journey.
We are envious and still waiting for the lotto win.
Uncle Colin
Maree has given me the latest update. Historic cities you name."Seige of Lucknow": troubled times with the colonisation of India captured in poem. Big days ahead, like Alexander in his pre-Christian expeditions. What an experience. It will keep you following up on those who passed this way aforer ye.

Hey Neil, the food was much more varied than I had expected. Each place we went to had their own local specialties or their own twist on similar dishes. The street food and snacks were always good and easy to order as you could just point to what you wanted. In the main centers and tourist places they generally had English and/or picture menus, but in many of the places we went Alana was ordering off Chinese menus. We had a bit of a game going to compare what we thought we were ordering to what was actually served - started a bit shaky but steadily improved :p.
Let us know when you are planning your trip and we'll try to meet up if we're in the same part of the world. If you end up in India be sure to send us a wedding invite ;)
