'London, you know, fish, chips, cup o'tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary @*%in' Poppins London'
-Snatch
Our visit to London was a whirlwind trip, mainly catching up with old friends that we hadn't seen for years. We timed our UK trip to coincide with Aaron's and Aidan's birthdays, celebrating Aaron's birthday down at the pub before waking up early the next morning to watch the rugby.
Aidan's form was much better the previous night than it was in the morning so it was a tall order to be on the 8am train to London. Somehow we made it in with time to spare and watched the first game of the Rugby Championship in true style at the Walkabout bar - an Aussie themed pub that had an 8:1 ratio of All Blacks to Wallabies supporters. The atmosphere was rife, like being at the stadium.
We headed to Cambridge on Aidan's birthday having a lower key event. The college grounds and surrounding area were picture perfect in classic English style.
We stayed with family in Cromer and they showed us around the beaches and gorgeous coastal towns. The area had its own unique style and the sort of charm that can only be found away from the main centres (which was helped along by the great weather and hospitality).
We returned to London for a couple of nights before leaving the UK, and had the fortune of staying with a cousin of my granddad who we had only come into contact with a few weeks prior. We had a great time sharing stories and laughs with him and his daughters and are glad to have met such lovely people.
