Okay, Okay,Okay!
Enough of the nagging- we're going to do a blog. Apologies for not writing sooner but the last few days have been pretty busy with lack of internet facilities.
Okay- so we last left you in Shanghai. We have visited Xi'tang, a little water village. Very scenic and extremly cold!!! and once again...just for a change...we got snowed in. The town was very beautiful and full of culture. And LOADS of street food sellers...which kept lee very happy!
After escaping from Xi'tang by having to pay a local to drive us back to shanghai as the buses were all cancelled. We got ready for our flight to Shezyhen, which is on the border of China/Hong Kong. This was only a stopping visit really, so we could cross the border the following day.
Crossing the border was very novel and well organised. We offically signed out of China-(getting another stamp!) Walked across a river passed the massive fences with barbed wire and entered Hong Kong (Another Stamp)
Because we only had a few days in Hong Kong we have been hardcore tourists. On the day we arrived...we got the metro across to Hong Kong Island and got the Tram up to Victoria Peak. The tram ride was a real experience and was very very steep. On the top of the peak, there was a massive shopping centre (of all places) Kirst Found it Very difficult not to spend any money (athough to her credit...she has been very good with money here!) Unfortunatly the city was very cloudy and we were unable to see an awful lot!
After the peak we went to the hollywood street markets...which were on a massive hill. The markets sold everything from cameras....to live fish (oh yes..not for pets either!) We both bought a few little trinkets in the markets. Hong Kong is not really a place where you can bargin with the sellers. Unlike Beijing, if you said a price which was too low they would let you walk away.
Day 2 Hong Kong....We took the worlds longest trip by metro and bus to the see the world largest Buddha....Very Big! The drive there was amazing...complete contrast to the big city. The Sky was filled with mountains covered in trees...beautiful golden beaches (complete with shark nets)....not at all what i would have expected from Hong Kong but very beautiful.
In the evening we went to the avenue of stars which overlooks Hong Kong island. This has been the highlight of kirst's trip so far...it was simply amazing. Especially as it was in the evening and all the buildings were lit up, and at 8pm every evening there is a light show, where the building dance to music.
After the light show we crossed the harbour on the star ferry (It had to be done!)
We met up with the group for the last time. We went out to dinner and then back for drinks at the tour leaders hotel room. 15 people in one hotel room...very crowded. Mind you we were better off than some....half the group moved across town to cheaper accomodation...which is described by lonely planet as "a dump.....a place to see but not to stay" Our group described the place as a Ghetto.
So we are back on our own again....in Hong Kong Airport. After sucessfully changing the dates of the flights with no problem..or charge! (nice bonus as we were expecting around 50 pounds each)
cant put any Hong Kong pics on at the mo as there is no USB ports on the computer but will soon.
We say goodbye to Hong Kong
And our next blog will be from sunny Bangkok where it is currently 32oC.
love kirst and lee xxx
