Only 2 more sleeps before I fly out to the USA with no return plane ticket. I have no definate job waiting for me at the end of all this, and no particular thoughts about what I want to do careerwise when the travelling stops. I am pleased to say that after just the first week of unemployment, this isn't a subject that is weighing particularly on my mind.
I have performed a couple of practice packs to ensure that everything fits. My 75 litre backpack is going to be brimming. I'm thinking that maybe the composition of my pack is all wrong - should 20% of the items really be medication? - but I can't see what I could leave out. I have zero experience of backpacking, so future regrets of what I did/didn't pack will all be part of the fun.
My plane ticket will be taking me from Melbourne - Los Angeles, Los Angeles - Frankfurt and finally Frankfurt - Moscow. Apart from my departure from Melbourne no other flight dates are confirmed. I'll be departing for the USA on Tuesday (28th October) and spend the first 3 nights in Santa Monica and the next 4 nights in Las Vegas. After that no one knows ... the remainder of the route will be decided as I go along. I have no real idea on how long this trip will last, however my goal is to last for at least 18 months. This will just depend on how long the finances survive. Hopefully the exchange rates improve over time.
Hopefully the next time I write I will have safely landed in LA, found the hostel and absorbing the hustle and bustle of a Santa Monica and Los Angeles. Sounds idyllic but knowing me it wont turn out quite like that!
Over and out!
