Thursday, May 7th.
Bid farewell to Mich and Toni and went to the Airport with Emmanuel. It was very sad to say goodbye however I know we will catch up again. It was about a 2 ½ hour flight to Cancun. I then jumped directly on a bus to Playa del Carmen and spent the night in a cheap hotel just next to the bus stop. The weather here is extremely humid and I can't stop sweating …….. It's horrible however I will need to get used to it as it just gets worse the further south I go. Went for a walk around town and wasn't that impressed. Extremely touristy which I had enough of in Cabo. Found a cheap taco stand for a bite to eat and back to the hotel for a sleep before heading over to Cozumel in the morning.
Friday, May 8th
Left the hotel at around 9.30am to catch the ferry over to Cozumel. It was a short 30min ride. Walked up the main street (very touristy) to find the hostel. Nice hostel with only one dorm room which contains 26 beds. There are a few private rooms but felt like some company. Met a few people and chatted for a while, but none worth really writing much more about. Wondered around town for a few hours before heading back to the hostel to make my dinner.
Saturday, May 9th
YIPEE. Diving today. There was only myself and the dive master. Everything is extremely quiet in town due to everyone panicking about the flu. Both dives were fantastic. The first was at Santa Rosa Wall which is a large reef wall. Lots of coral, sponges and marine life. Also swam through 3 small caves which is the first time I had done this and loved it. I might look into some more cave dives during my travels. The second dive was to another reef called Paradise. The reef was not as spectacular as the first however there was a lot more marine life. Saw many types of fish as well as rays and eels. I didn't have an underwater camera so couldn't take any photos however found a couple of nice ones online which show you a little of what I saw.
I then hired a scooter for the afternoon to ride around the island. It is only around 65km in radius. Stopped off at a beach for a quick swim, stopped off at a beachside bar for a quick beer, stopped at what was said to be Mayan ruins but it is now just a pile of rocks. The local Mayan's are actually still living there so have just built their homes around the ruins. Went to go to another one as well however they had closed for the day.
Sunday, May 10th
Hoped on the 9am ferry back to Playa del Carmen to catch the bus to Belize.
