Finally arrived to our (gorgeous!!) hotel in Hong Kong after a 24 hour trip! Left Yangshuo yesterday and took the bus up to Guilin, as we got to spend the day pottering about the hotel, playing scrabble in the garden and having a drink. So glad we did it because after the bus we had a 2 hour wait in Guilin before the overnight train, which was just over 15 hours.
Arriving into Shenzhen was a bit mad! It's the last main train station in mainland China, on the border with Hong Kong, and we needed to go through Chinese emigration and get our passports stamped with their departure stamps. We then had to head to Hong Kong immigration, fill in landing cards and get our passports stamped for entry into HK! The funniest part was coming off the train, there's the usual Exit signs, Platform signs etc. and then there's the signs saying Hong Kong! As Oisin said, he'd never seen signs in a train station pointing the way to a whole city! The best sign was 'Please Leave the Country by Lift'!!
HK is totally different to the rest of China. First impressions..I like it! Doesn't really feel like China though, with British-looking number plates on the cars and all the signs in English as well as Chinese. Our hotel is fab..everything you'd expect of HK..all chrome and glass, very cool altogether :)
We're on the 23rd floor which the boys are loving!
More to follow...!
