I arrived in to Vietnam on the 22nd Oct and I have just got down to a place called Nha Trang.I have to say that my enthusiasm for Vietnam has been slightly battered in the last 12 hours! There have been horrific floods through Vietnam and I didn't quite realise how bad things were until I got on the bus to come to Nha Trang.I boarded the bus from Hoi An and although Hoi An had been flooded, I assumed that there would be no problem with the bus trip because they were still running it. Wrong! It was a 12 hour bus trip and we went through a lot of water, consequently all my stuff that was in the luggage bit, is soaked through. Once, the driver tried an alternative route to avoid the floods, but the bridge was too low and we then had to do a really tight 3 point turn and ended up in a ditch. When we got the bus back on track, it ran out of diesel 10 mins later (this is meant to be one of the most reputable companies!)
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I've in my Nha Trang hotel now and off in search of a hairdryer to dry out my backpack (I dread to think how dirty the water was).I'm not complaining really because I realise that it must be awful for people that are being flooded. I'm very grateful that I just havea wet backpack and I haven't lost my whole house. Here is a link to a news story that I found about the floods.
I have some very funny pictures of the coach driver attempting to put diesel in the coach with a bucket and an empty pringle tub, at the side of the road!I will put them on when I can (if my camera charger dries ok).
I have enjoyed Vietnam so far, the people are very friendly, the coffee is amazing and it's really cheap.I went on a trip to Halong Bay for 3 days and I have ended up traveling down through Vietnam with the people from that trip, which is nice.I also went on a trip to the beautiful Tam Coc caves.
I hope you are all ok (& dry)!
