Sallys Worldwide Adventure
I arrived in Cape Town on 5th April 2006. We met up with 3 people that we'd met in Zimbarbwe, which was cool.
I spent the first night in an area called Camps Bay and then 2 nights in the city in a place called Travellers in on Long Street, the back to camps bay for the last 2 nights.
Heres what I got up too.
Hired a car and went for a drive down to Cape Point. The views all along the coast were amazing. Once we actually got to Cape Point, we had to climb a million steps to get up to the look out, but its was well worth it!
Atempted to go up Table mountain, but the cable car was shut due to high winds, which was a shame. But you can drive about half way up, so still had amazing views, could look out right across cape town.
Went to Robin Island, which is were Nelson Mandella was imprisioned. It was interesting, but most the time we were stuck on a bus witha really annoying guide who thought he was hillarious. We did get to take a walk around the maximum security part of the prison, looking in all the tiny cells. Also had a spetch by an ex prisoner who told us what it was like back then.
Heres what I thought of Cape Town
Cape Town was a really beautiful place by day, but at night it becomes really dangerous and I was adviced not to go out at night! Which is a real shame, because I kind of felt confined to my hotel as soon as it got dark. Went out a couple of nights, but you have to know that there will be a taxi outside the club to take you home, otherwise your pretty much stranded.
The public transport system is non existent! To do anything you have to hire a car!!
Most things were pretty cheap, I paid around 12 a night. And the food was a good variaty and pretty cheap.
I would goto Cape Town again, but it would be more of a sun holiday than a sight seeing holiday.
