Howdies! Have had quite a journey since leaving Arusha!
For starters the Arusha-Nairobi shuttle bus - bus itself was fine, not full so room to spead out and since the lonely planet mentioned that the road was sealed all the way, I was expecting a comfortable journey. How wrong I was. Whichever complete idiot in charge of road planning decided to resurface the road. Great idea you might think, smoother jouney. BUT ALL AT THE SAME TIME??? The whole road was being resurfaced at the same time, all 100kms. There were minute sections that were open, but they were few and far between, meaning practically the whole journey was on a dirt road created from the ditch that runs alongside the real road. It's hard to get over the stupidity in doing that on a major route between neighbouring countries.
But, eventually made it to Nairobi (traffic again awful, with police instead of traffic lights who appear to do more harm than good) and checked in to the hotel we stopped at, Parkside - pretty reasonable and in the centre. Managed to get some kenyan shillings and book a coach to Kampala from Nakuru (more to come...). Pretty good shopping but was getting dark so found the net to research the next part of the jouney.
Got to say I liked Nairobi, and if it didn't have such a reputation I probably would have walked around (on my own, after dark) as its busy, lots of people aorund. But obviously I decided against it, and luckily found a local bistro across the street which did some tasty, cheap cheap food. And took a taxi the whole 300m to the hotel...
