The beginning of the week started with a trip to the Dentist - yep, just another reminder that I'm aging! My tooth broke in half vertically and of course I had to have a crown! Come in ismile Dental http://www.ismile-dds.com/. I went last week Monday and today I have my beautiful new crown. They were brilliant, fitted me in at short notice, quick, efficient AND wait for it - it was cheaper than what I would have paid in Australia!
Anyway moving along onto to the more important stuff - the hunt for GOOD CAWFEE….. As some of you probably know, one of us just simply CANNOT live without coffee. Up until now - Starbucks has pretty much been it for him! Williamsburg is pretty hip and happening, so the thinking was that we'd be sure to stumble across good coffee sooner or later. Sure enough - there is a truly thriving coffee culture right here on our doorstep. Imagine G's EXCITMENT!! We've tested many (and there's heaps more testing to be done) but to date these are the top five in no particular order
http://www.bluebottlecoffee.com/cafes/berry-st - mmmmm gorgeous coffee aroma's but it's very clinical, they roast their own, sitting and relaxing whilst having a coffee isn't really encouraged. Plenty of standing room and caters more to takeaways
http://www.konditorinyc.com/ - a grungy little Swedish cafe with loads of afternoon sunshine, good coffee and homemade muffins - gluten free, vegan, organic you name it...
http://tobysestate.com/story/tobys-brooklyn - well we all know this one! This place is always packed - we've been about four times and it's impossible to get a seat straight away - say no more! They roast on site and offer vegemite toast - spot the Aussie - they're the ones with that black stuff on their toast!
St Balmain - this coffee place is very new, they don't appear to have a website yet. It's cozy and trendy with barista's who know what they're doing. It looks like they're in the process of adding a Pizza bar at the back of the cafe - watch this space....
http://www.pudgeknuckles.com/#!cafe/cswj - the coffees on offer here are unique to say the least! Went conservatively the first time, but can't wait to try out some of the "potions" they have on offer. They even have a Coffee Service Vehicle for "Emergency Coffee Services" - what the???
An observation is that most coffee joints are full of people making the most of the free Wi-fi on offer whilst perhaps having one or two coffees over many hours.... How DO these cafes make money??!!
