Less than 3 months to the departure date, and the preparations have stepped up a gear!! Language lessons have started with Cynthia and each week we're surprising each other (and ourselves) with the progress that's being made. Fluent in no time!!
This weekend was 'busy' - Saturday (12 March) was spent with Personal Shoppers at Debenham's, Lakeside to select a 'team uniform'. This was nowhere near as challenging as the 'team leader' was expecting ... and the decision process was very relaxed (- no hissy fits!) - I feel as though District 1240 now has the very best 'cabin crew' available!!
On Sunday (13 March) the team presented themselves to a District Alumni gathering and lunch in Chelmsford. The occasion was expertly organised by Rtn Pat Gaudin (RC Chelmsford Mildmay) and I was delighted to be able to introduce the team to DG Bob and incoming RIBI President Burman. The team found themselves as the 'centre of attention' for the first time, as many previous team leaders and members offered tips and advice based on their GSE experiences and memories. The gathering welcomed the team warmly ... and everyone felt as though their GSE adventure was truly 'launched'.
So now it's down to the hard work - preparing presentations and translations, and learning enough Portuguese to be able to order a beer without help from a phrasebook!
