First of all apologies that we haven't updated the blog recently! A combination of very enthusiastic hosts, a full programme of visits and no Internet / WiFi access have made life challenging!
We've spent the last 4 days in the town of Suzano, about an hour and a half's drive to the east of Sao Paulo. Our hosts have been fantastic and GSE area coordinator Rtn Zenemon has made sure that we made the most of our time in his town.
The visits have included local schools, the water treatment works, the local newspaper, the Dept of Culture, the Mayor's office and a 'water park'! I'll explain about the water park another time! The visits all helped to paint a picture of a town where there is high unemployment, and the majority appear to live relatively poor conditions.
The team has attended 3 Rotary Club meetings and made their full presentation (in Portuguese) at each meeting. The effort invested in learning some Portuguese has made us many friends.
We are now at the District Conference in a resort town in the mountains, about three hours to the north west of Sao Paulo. Im sure that when the sun shines and the cloud lifts it is a very pretty location. We are not expected to do too much at the conference so we'll spend time with the District 4430 GSE team, and the many Rotary and friends that we've made already. We will obviously be the "main attraction" at the GSE session on Saturday morning!
I hope that this weekend we'll have time to add a few photos so you can see of the team and GSE 'in action'.
