One of the unexpected highlights of my trip that I've mentioned throughout my blog was the music! Being able to listen to R3 continuously was a huge treat for me. I've become a bit of a Canadian Indie music junky throughout the past couple of years. I started my addiction by downloading The Grant Lawrence R3 podcasts. I would listen to them (and still do) while the kids were in bed or at their Dad's for the weekend. I would putter around the house, doing things like laundry and making banana bread and as I listened, I would keep a running list of songs/artists that I particularly enjoyed. Then later when I had time, I would explore them on the CBC site, myspace and you tube. I created a playlist of some of my favourite CBCR3 songs and I am now at 91 songs. If you have ever been to my house, there is a very good chance that I have already force-fed my music selection down your ears. Those who haven't yet had the pleasure, don't be scared; even if you don't share the same enthusiasm as me I promise to wash it down with a drink or two.
About halfway through my road-trip I decided that I should make note of some of my new favourite tunes. Since I was driving I didn't think that writing out the names was the best idea (I am a proud Young Driver's graduate) so of course the only other logical option was to take a picture of the radio screen that displayed the artist name and song title. I'm genius! I only took pictures of songs that were new to me. And I missed some songs due to driving conditions (see Mom - I am safe!). Sometimes I was already familiar with the artist and sometimes not. In hindsight I wish I had also included songs that were already favourites as a musical journal but I did get 18 new song titles to look back on. Since I've been home, I have created a separate Maritime Roadtrip Playlist with 16 of these songs (unfortunately 2 of them aren't available). I also added one by Radio Radio that I remembered wanting to get a picture of but for some reason wasn't able to do so.
The first time I listened to my pictures transform into music, I was immediately taken back to that carefree, wind blowing through the windows, beautiful scenery out of every corner of my eyes, place of serenity inside me. The playlist is an interesting mix and I would highly encourage you to check it out. Maybe over a Keith's?
And yes, my profile picture is me in my CBCR3 t-shirt that I ordered on-line for myself. I was so giddy when it arrived that I photo-boothed a picture of me in it straight away and tagged myself on FB. Yup. Geek.
