What can I say EPIC adventure.
Our second kletterstaige in Mittenwald start slowly waiting half an hour for the lift up but when we did finally get there a 2 minute walk saw us to the start of the hardest climb yet. It was a little tricky with several hard traverses but I enjoyed every second. This was just stage one the hard climb before the long ridge walk. This part took us about 1.5 hours then to the start of the real rest.
The sun was shining down on us with no shade and it was just getting hotter and hotter. The view was absolutely stunning, it felt like we were on top of the world.
Eventually we came to a slight dip in the mountain before all the ladders started where there was just enough shade to sit and have some lunch. It hadn't been a hard route, no need to clip in yet. After sandwiches and a dew sweets off we went pass the escape route and up the ladders. All we could see was miles of mountains in every direction.
More ladders and some planks of wood as bridges and then some more ladders we came to a good place to rest and a map stop. After looking at the map and realising that we had been going fog 3 hours and we weren't even half way yet we made an executive decision that Stu has to go on ahead and get back to make sure the dogs were alright.
He started up and before you knew it we could see him in the distance.
The route was getting harder as we had to keep on decending on scree which is pretty difficult if your not used to it and the a climb back up. It just kept getting hotter and we could see no end. At 3:30 Stu got to the start of the decent we were about half way there, just keep going, by now my head was killing with slight sun stroke so helmet off and carry on.
By 5pm Stu got back to the van and we had started the decent ourselves. It was really difficult every step you slid slightly and the heat was unbearable.
Luckily Stu had decided to drive to the bottom of the mountain and started to walk back up with the dogs. We meet up at about 7pm and all walked the rest together. Got back at about 8pm extremely tired.
Amazing though.
