<![CDATA[1 July 2010: So, it has taken me almost two months to sort myself out and do this.. Hopefully this will be an easier way for me to share with you some tales and photos of my trip.. To bring you up to speed briefly, after one final nourishing Guinness with Nic I left Heathrow late one Friday evening on a TAM Airlines plane called `The Magic Red Carpet` and arrived in sunny Buenos Aires, Argentina the following day.. After a week studying Spanish and hanging out in the city with Carlijn, Guus and Stefanie, I headed to Mendoza where I met the spirited Javier who made me keep pace as we cycled around the vineyards. Next stop was Cordoba where the lovely local Monica showed me all the sights of the city and nearby towns. Continuing northwards to Salta I met up with Carlijn again and we explored the beautiful Quebrada de Humuaca mountain range together. Impulsively decided to head to San Pedro de Atacama, across the border in Chile, and crossed the Jama Pass at 4,700m before arriving in San Pedro and meeting long time travellers Ally and Pablo. Teamed up with Dave and Javier to enjoy a few great days sandboarding, cycling, drinking pisco sours and laying in hammocks. From here there is only one direction: Bolivia. Together with Dave, I find myself in a jeep for three days crossing the southern altiplano, seeing geysers, splendid lakes, flamingoes and lots of salt as we cross the Salar de Uyuni, a 12,000 sq km salt plain. Visit Uyuni, Potosi and Sucre, where I live in the yellow house with Lumen and Jorge for one week, before leaving the altiplano and heading to the lowlands, to Santa Cruz and then out to Quijarro on the border with Brazil and the Pantanal. Back to Trinidad, the Bolivan wild west, and onto Rurrenabaque in the Amazon Basin.. 21 hours and climbing 3,420m in a bus to get to La Paz where I will pick up from now..
Happiness is to be found among life's common things. It is not great wealth, great learning, great genius or great power; it is not these things that make the possessors happy. It is health, friendship, love at home; it is the voices of children, it is sunshine. It is the blessings that are commonest, not those that are the rarest.
