Saturday 21st
Last day of our NY Pass. By now we have a good idea of our position on this island.
On the bus first thing to get to Empire State building. Sun is shining again with suggestion of late rain. Took opportunity with blue skies...
Up we go in to the 86th floor observation deck. On a great day you would see for miles, unfortunately we fought some misty clouds and had a pretty limited view of the city. Glad we didn't pay extra to go higher as today would have been wasted & seen no more.
The view from Top of the Rock was much better for us this time.
Perhaps we should have waited to go up at night but we stuck to the schedule today.
On the bus again to get down to Battery Park and jumped off near Ground Zero. They are well into building the new towers. We didn't get tickets to view the memorial but did see the surrounding area, man it was close to the destruction.
Walking down Fulton street to South Seaport - lovely and warm, almost hot. Incorporated in our pass we obtained our tickets for the Bodies exhibition.
You may have seen the tv show with the German scientist dude showing all the internal body and cut always etc. Was very interesting to see us from the inside out and the fact of using real bodies and how they are shown in this way is clever stuff.
Pier 17 is a wharf shed type area full of restaurants and street vendors. We looked at the cruise options but decided to stick with our original plan and head back to 42nd street wharf.
The bus is good and you hear different commentary each time you get on. Last stop on 8th and we hit the pavement to the boat. Tickets gathered and we joined others for the obligatory 'get your photo taken at each and every significant or other tourist spot'!!! No thanks today.
Top deck open air seats in the sun for the views whilst cruising around the island for a couple of hours.
Great views and plenty of photos taken. Calm water and clear skies - lovely to sit back for a bit.
A decent walk back to 45th and decided on old faithful Subway for dinner. Girls are tired after some decent walking today - thought they be used to it by now...!!!??
Good day with a couple of speed bumps along the way, TB not really involved in the planning etc and then querying what we are doing - WTF!!
Frustrating but hey we get on with it
Have promised a casual start tomorrow for Sunday morning, no alarms etc.
2 days left in NYC to do our own thing, check out some shopping, Macy's, Central Park and whatever else we find.
Haven't eaten out much at all, not spent any ground time in the other parts of the city but perhaps people not interested in this. We have some very distinct differences in interests and things we want to see/do. I might have to explore on my own.....
Hope the scheduled rain is not too bad in next 48hrs, a walk in Central Park is required.
